What you pay to enter Mikumi
The Mikumi National Park entrance fee is a conservation fee per person. It depends on who you are: non-East African visitors pay the highest rate, foreign residents of Tanzania pay less, and citizens of East African Community countries pay the lowest. On top of that you pay for the vehicle you drive in, and for anything extra such as a guide, a walk or a night drive.
The 2023/24 tariff, valid from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024, set $30 a day for adults aged 16 and over who are not East African and $10 for children aged 5 to 15. Rates of $50 for adults and $15 for children are quoted for 2026/27. Check the current amount before you book, and ask whether it is already included in a safari price.
Mikumi and Udzungwa sit in the same fee category, but you pay for each park separately. If you plan a safari on the Mkata Floodplain and a hike to the Sanje waterfalls, you need entry for both.

Open vehicles pay a 50 percent surcharge on the vehicle fee. Walks need an authorised guide and only happen in areas set aside for them. How a Mikumi day permit works
Five points that change what you pay.
Day permit or overnight permit
In the 2023/24 tariff a day permit is valid for 12 daylight hours and an overnight permit for 24 hours. Ask which one your booking uses, and plan your entry time around it.
Gates close in the evening
Gates normally close at 6 p.m. The main entrance is near Mikumi town. Plan the last hours of your drive around closing time.
Guide and activity are separate lines
The guide and the activity are charged separately. That does not mean every tour adds both. Ask for a quote that shows each cost line.
Packages and tour prices
A safari from Dar es Salaam or a multi-day trip may include park fees or list them on top. Compare quotes that show the same items.
Concessions for groups
School and education groups can apply for a reduction in advance.
How to pay Mikumi park fees
The ways to pay.
At the gate
Visa and Mastercard are accepted at the gate, and mobile money is accepted as well. Ask your operator before the trip which method your gate takes, and carry a backup.
Through the government payment system
Park fees can be paid through the government electronic payment system (GePG). An online reservation option also exists, and operators can pay by bank transfer.
Included in a package
With a booked safari, your operator normally settles the fees. The invoice then shows whether they are in the price.
If you sleep in the park, camping is charged per person and night in the 2023/24 tariff: $30 for adults at a public campsite and $5 for children aged 5 to 15, or $50 and $10 at a special campsite, which you book in advance. More options are on the Mikumi accommodation page.
Other fees on the same trip
Neighbouring places charge on their own.

Udzungwa Mountains
A separate park with its own entry and the Sanje waterfalls.

Uluguru Mountains
Run by the forest service, so the park fee does not cover it.

Nyerere National Park in the south has its own tariff and tickets, which do not carry over. See the Nyerere park fees.
